School Meals

Spring Summer Menu 2024

Information

Our lunchtime takes place from 12.00 – 1.15pm. There are two sittings so that we can accommodate all the children in the hall during this time and allow them to have a playtime too. During this time our very experienced Midday Assistants supervise the children in the hall and on the playground.

Our school meals are provided by a contracted Catering Service who work hard to provide nutritionally balanced meals for the children. Menus provide a wide range of choices, including hot and cold options, and a salad bar is also available. We regard lunchtimes as an opportunity to develop social skills, when children learn how to use good manners, make healthy choices and to eat in a social environment. From September 2014, all pupils in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 will receive a free meal at no cost to the parent/carer. If you wish to change from school meals to packed lunches a minimum of 1 week term time notice is required in writing.

A small number of children bring packed lunches to school. If you wish your child to do so please send the lunch and a drink in a small bag with your child’s name and class clearly marked. Children who have packed lunches are seated in the hall with children who have school meals. If you wish to change from packed lunches to school meals a minimum of 1 week term time notice is required in writing.

Parents/Carers

Registering for free meals could raise an extra £1,300 per pupil for our school, to fund valuable support like extra tuition, additional teaching staff or extra curricular activities.

This additional money is available from central government for every child whose parent is receiving qualifying welfare benefits. It is therefore important to sign up for free school meals, even though your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, so that our school receives as much funding as possible.

If you would like to request an application form, or require further information, please see Mrs Clark in the office for a confidential chat.

Healthy Eating

We received our Healthy School Award in 2010 and we encourage the children to follow a healthy lifestyle, learning about our bodies and how to keep healthy. Each day the children have a free piece of fruit as a snack and cooled water is available throughout the day in all classrooms. If your child does not eat fruit then we ask that you send in a healthy alternative snack e.g. sultanas or raisins but no sugary foods or drinks. We celebrate birthdays as a whole school with stickers and bookmarks but ask that you do not send in any sweet treats.

Parents can also purchase milk for snack times which is paid online at www.coolmilk.com

Message from the Kitchen Staff

Dear Parents,

A little information about school meals for you.

Your children will be catered for by our team of highly qualified catering staff who also hold certificates in nutrition and health.
All meals are freshly prepared in our kitchen on a daily basis using the freshest produce. We do not use mechanically recovered meat and our fish all comes from a sustainable source.
Children needing a special diet are catered for on a daily basis and if you have any concerns the staff are always available to talk to you.
Every child is important to us and we aim to make lunchtime a great experience for them. We know every child's name and always sing to them on their birthdays, even if we have to sing ten times a day.
Children are always treated with respect by our staff and we hope they enjoy their time with us.
