  • Primary school pupils and rapid asymptomatic testing

    Thu 25 Mar 2021

On advice from Public Health England (PHE), pupils in primary schools and children in nursery settings are not included in the rapid asymptomatic testing programme.

PHE has advised that there are currently limited public health benefits to testing primary-aged pupils with lateral flow devices (LFD). In addition, primary-aged pupils, particularly younger children, may find the LFD testing process unpleasant and are unable to self-swab.

We are advising that primary-aged pupils should only be tested if they are symptomatic, in which case their families should follow the guidance for households with possible or confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infection and book a PCR test for the child.

  • Parent/Carers - 6th January 2021

    Wed 06 Jan 2021

    Wednesday 6th January 2021

    Dear parents and carers,

    A couple of quick points to bring to your attention;

For the children learning remotely at home –

Please can you contact the school office if you will require a printed copy of the week’s home-learning PowerPoint. As stated in the email yesterday, please only request one if your child has no access to the internet/online learning. Once they are ready we will notify parents that they can be collected from school. Home learning has been designed in such a way that children can view the task on screen (this can be a laptop, tablet or phone) and then record answers in the exercise books that school have previously sent home. Teachers will know what activity answers in your child’s book will relate to if you request feedback. There should be no need for anything to be printed out at home.

Teachers will start to get in touch with some of you over the next few days regarding a video call with your child. It is our aim this lockdown to video chat with every child (& parent) once per fortnight and for some of you this may be as soon as tomorrow. These video calls will be to help with any home learning issues, provide encouragement, feedback and support to the children and give a brief opportunity for parents to discuss any issues that have arisen.

For the children of key-workers –

Please remember to send your child in with a water bottle and a snack as we have no milk and fruit being delivered during this period of lockdown.

Snow – If we have a heavy snowfall overnight or in the morning over the next few weeks, please wait to hear from us before you start your journey to school. We will do all we can to keep school open but will need to ensure we have the right staff members in to staff the class bubbles before we can open. As explained in a communication that went out before Christmas, the Local Authority have made it very clear to schools that we must prioritise COVID safety over staying open at all costs in the event of a possible emergency closure day, and this will be even more important now we are in a full lockdown.

In the event of heavy snow, we will text/email each key worker bubble individually to inform you whether your bubble is open and staffed for the day. In the event of site, kitchen or all senior staff being unable to make it to school, we would unfortunately have to fully close for the day as it would not be safe or feasible to open.

Please check your texts, emails and the school website in the event of a heavy or disruptive snowfall.

    Many thanks

  • Coronavirus Reminder

    Tue 10 Nov 2020

    Dear parents and carers,

Thank you for your ongoing support of school during the coronavirus pandemic. We continue to do our best to keep our children and staff safe in school via the measures we have in place.

    In order to help us all stay safe, please can I remind you that if anyone in your household displays one or more of the COVID symptoms;

    • A high temperature
    • A new, persistent cough
    • Loss or change in the sense of smell or taste

They must seek a COVID test as soon as possible.

Also, once a member of the household has been for a test, all other members of the household must self-isolate until the test result comes back. If the test is negative, everyone can return to school and work. If the test is positive, the whole household MUST remain in self-isolation for 14 days from the onset of symptoms.

We have unfortunately had several incidences now where children have still been attending school whilst a family member in their household either has symptoms but has not sought a test, or has had a test and is awaiting their test result. This should not be happening and could considerably increase the risk of COVID-19 coming into school.

We are heavily reliant on our families and staff doing the right thing out of school to help us stay in school, please do your best to help us.

    Many thanks

    Mrs Lockett

We have been notified that Microsoft has blocked the Tameside MBC domain from their system.

This means that parents using Hotmail/live/outlook email addresses will encounter problems with the Tameside online applications system.

They won’t receive their confirmation email when they register or submit their applications for new reception, new year 3 and new year 7 and will be prevented from completing the application.

Parents using these email providers are asked to set up an alternative account using another provider (Gmail for example).

We have taken steps to address this problem with Microsoft but it is at present unclear if / when this will be resolved.

    Kind regards

    School Office

  • Reminders of our agreed drop-off and collection protocols at school

    Mon 21 Sep 2020

    Monday 21st September 2020

    Dear parents and carers,

Due to the recent rise in COVID cases in Tameside and the likelihood of a second spike of the virus nationally, I am writing to you today with some reminders of our agreed drop-off and collection protocols at school.

It is imperative that we stick as closely to these protocols as possible in order to keep our year group bubbles open and our whole school community safe.

    Drop off and collection reminders

    • Parents and carers should aim to be on the school premises within the 15-minute window of time allocated to your child’s year group - no earlier or later.

    8.45 - 9.00am – Year 2 door

    Year 1 bubble

    9.00 - 9.15am – Year 1 door

    • Parents and children should walk to and from school where possible and you should avoid using public transport if you are able to.
    • Only one parent should attend school with your child each day.
    • If older and younger siblings can be safely left at home with the other parent, they should be. If siblings are brought onto the school premises, they should remain with you and be closely supervised.
    • Once you have dropped off/collected your child, please leave the school premises as soon as possible.
    • Please do not remain on the playground chatting to other parents, keep your child with you and don’t allow them on to the adventure play equipment or up on the forest school hill.
    • Please do not wait around on the playground to chat with parents in other year groups, unless you are specifically picking a child up yourself from that year group.
    • Please do not congregate at the school gates either before or after bringing your child to school.
    • Please don’t attempt to speak directly to school staff at morning arrival or afternoon collection. If you have a query or concern that you wish to raise with a member of staff you should email or telephone the school or email the teacher directly.
    • If you find yourself waiting on the playground for any length of time, please leave a 2m distance between yourself and other parents.
    • Please follow the one-way system in school - On arrival at school, parents should take the path at the side of Reception onto the playground, walking to their year group door to drop off their child. Once they have dropped off their child, parents should then exit the playground via the far gate that runs alongside year 2 and walk along the carpark path back to the pedestrian exit – This route forms a full circle and should then be repeated at collection time.

Please can I once again reiterate that none of these measures have been put in place to inconvenience parents, we are simply trying to do everything we can to stop the virus spreading un-checked throughout our school community. I want to thank you all for your patience and understanding with these and all the other measures we have implemented at school. It is only by working together that we can reduce our risk.

    Many thanks

    Mrs L. Lockett

Alongside the learning that is available on our school website, please also remember that for those of you that would prefer more formal, video lessons delivered by a teacher, the Government have created the Oak National Academy which contain video lessons for that reason.

You can find them here; https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/schedule/

Please also remember that you or your child can submit learning that they have been doing to their teachers via the teacher email addresses. Teachers will respond to these.

    Calling all Stalyhill Super Scientists

We have some very exciting news.  We are taking part in this year’s Great Science Share For Schools! This annual event inspires young people to communicate their scientific questions and investigations to new audiences. Children can choose to share scientific work via Twitter or you could email it to Mrs Greer.  This could simply be any science that they may have already carried out at home or in class or they can choose something new to carry out on 16th June which is the date of this year’s event.  This is a day to celebrate where children are in their scientific journey and to embrace their interests.  We will start communicating ideas over the coming weeks via parent mail and Twitter so please keep a look out for further information about this exciting event so as we can help you prepare to share your amazing science on 16th June.

Please could you let Mrs Greer know if you wish to take part in this event or if you want to find out more.  You can email her using mrsgreer@stalyhill-inf.tameside.sch.uk.  You know how much Mrs Greer loves Science! She would love you ALL to take part this year.  How exciting!

  • Key Worker Update

    Thu 19 Mar 2020

Those of you that have watched the Prime Minister’s briefing this evening will know that he still hasn’t given schools the list of who will be classed as a ‘key-worker’. We are very well aware that other schools have already started sending out lists of key-workers to parents, however at this time these schools are making assumptions about who is going to be included and have no factual information as this is yet to be released. It only takes a brief online search to discover that the lists and ‘facts’ that schools are putting out to parents widely differ from school to school which proves their inaccuracy.

We understand that no information is frustrating for parents at the moment but I am determined to only send out factually correct information to you and am therefore waiting until we are properly informed. The last thing I would want is for you to make plans based on incorrect information to only then have to change them again.

The details are coming, the Government have to release them soon and as soon as I have them, you will have them.

Please bear with me and I will be in touch again as soon as I can.

    Thank you

    Mrs Lockett
