PE

 

In Year 1 we have PE with our sports coach, Dave, on a Tuesday (Autumn Term) and with our teachers on a Thursday. In the Spring term PE will change to Monday and Thursday

We ask that children come to school dressed in their PE kit on PE days. 

 

Phonics/reading

 

We change our Read, Write Inc. Book bag book during our  phonics lesson on Thursday. These books are closely matched to our phonic ability.

 

Mrs Weston's class visit the library every Thursday. Mrs Ashley's class visit the library every Friday. Please feel free to visit the school library as often as you like at the end of the school day. 

 

There is also a wide range of books to choose from in our school library. Parents and children are welcome to use the library at the end of the school day. The library can be accessed via the school office. Reading a range of books helps to build your reading stamina and promotes a love of reading.

 

Phonics Screening check

 

In June we assess our phonic knowledge through a phonic screening check. Our teachers carry out this check with us and they make it fun and not scary! All Year 1 children in the UK are given the phonics check, you can find out more details about it here;

Parents will be given the result of our phonics screening check (met required standard or not met required standard) in our end of year report.

Snack time;

 

We are provided with a piece of fruit to eat at morning break time each day, but some parents may wish to provide their own snack. Please ensure that these are in line with our healthy eating policy. Please do not send crisps, biscuits, chocolate, nuts or foods which contain too much sugar.

 

As a healthy school we ask that you only send water into school for your child to drink throughout the day. Water bottles can be refilled throughout the day as required.
