Science Week 9th – 13th March
Tue 10 Mar 2020We have got lots of exciting activities planned for Science Week this year which takes place between 9th and 13th March with the theme this year being ‘Our Diverse Planet’. Each child will require a small box during this week for one of the activities (a shoe box would be perfect). Please could we ask that your child brings in a small box with their name on by Tuesday 10th March.
During Science Week, we would like to focus one of the days on the diverse range of creatures we have on our planet and would like to invite all the children to come to school on Thursday 12th March dressed as a camouflaged creature! If your child does not have a particular animal outfit, they may wish to choose something like a polar bear where they can come dressed in white so they could camouflage themselves in an arctic environment or maybe a green frog which would be camouflaged in a rainforest environment. We cannot wait to see a diverse selection of creatures arriving at school on 12th March! If you have any queries, please speak to Mrs Greer (Science Lead).

Maths Week
Mon 18 Nov 2019This week we will be celebrating all things maths in school as part of National Maths Week.
The theme for the week will be ‘Marvellous Maths’ and we will aim to encourage a positive attitude towards maths, improve confidence and promote the value of maths as an essential life skill – all things we believe in passionately. Our vision is for everyone to feel positive about maths – to feel that it is something they can do, and enjoy.
For more details, including details of how parents can get involved, please see the letter in the Newsletter section.

Non Uniform Day - Friday 15th November
Fri 08 Nov 2019Dear Parents and carers,
Children in Need takes place next Friday (15th November) and in an effort to ensure that the children can take part in the day itself we have taken the decision to bring forward the Non-uniform day for both Children in Need and the Christmas Fair chocolate tombola donations to Friday 15th November. This will be a change to the originally advertised dates.
On Friday 15th November the children can come in their own clothes or dress up in the Children in Need theme of spots. We ask that the children then bring either an item of chocolate to donate to Stalyhill’s Christmas Fair chocolate tombola and/or a £1 donation for Children in Need.
Many thanks

Polling Day - Thursday 12th December 2019
Tue 05 Nov 2019Re: Polling Day – Thursday 12th December 2019
As you will be aware the Government have now called a General Election for Thursday 12th December. As our school is a polling station, there will be some disruption to our normal operations that day, however we are aiming to keep this disruption to an absolute minimum for both children and parents.
We had planned to have our school Christmas dinner on Thursday 12th, this will now be moved to Friday 13th December and will be on the same day as our Save the Children Christmas Jumper day, providing a lovely festive atmosphere for the children that day.
On the polling day itself, school will remain OPEN to all children but the hall will be locked and inaccessible to children and staff throughout the day. The polling will take place in the hall and the internal door locks will mean that no members of the general public or polling volunteers will have access to the main part of school.
As the hall will be out of use, the children will receive a ‘picnic style’ packed lunch that day which they will eat in their classrooms. This has proved to be quite a successful compromise in the past and enables us to keep the school open on polling days.
Parking around school may be busier than usual on the polling day and we ask that you park sensibly and with consideration for other drivers.
If you use Wise Owl, the club will be running as normal however the children will be using a classroom as opposed to the hall that day. You will be asked to bring your child to the school’s main entrance where they will be collected by a member of the Wise Owl team.
Many thanks

Occasionally parents ask us to support additional causes throughout the year which may be close to their own hearts. Unfortunately we are not always able to agree to such requests as we already have a full programme of fundraising and charity support across the year.
In the last couple of year’s school budgets have been dramatically reduced, this has led to us needing to increase our fundraising efforts for school funds and we very much appreciate parent’s support with this.
The PTA also run several events throughout the year in order to raise funds for larger projects across the Infant and Junior schools.
Please note that all contributions to and participation in the above events is completely voluntary.
