European Elections - Thursday 23rd May
Fri 10 May 2019We have now had confirmation from the Local Authority that the European Elections will be going ahead on Thursday 23rd May and that this day will therefore be a day of closure to children at the Infant School.
Can I apologise once again for the disruption and inconvenience that this will undoubtedly cause families but as previously stated this was an unexpected election and not something that the school or Governing Body were able to influence or refuse.
Many thanks
Mrs L. Lockett

Polling Day – 2nd May 2019
Mon 29 Apr 2019As you will know, Thursday 2nd May is designated as a polling day for the local elections. This year, as we did last year, we will remain open on the day and polling will be going ahead as usual in our hall but the school day will carry on around it.
Can I firstly assure parents that the school hall will be securely, externally locked and therefore no member of the public or member of the polling staff will have access to the rest of the school, unsupervised, at any time. We have gone to great lengths to ensure that all procedures on that day robustly adhere to our safeguarding practices and duty of care to the children.
Reception children will be out of the school building that day on their trip to Cannon Hall Farm and the coach will pick up and drop off outside the school building as normal.
Years 1 and 2 will remain in school and will run their day completely normally with the exception of lunchtime. As we will have no access to the school hall at lunchtime, we have made arrangements with the kitchen staff to provide a ‘picnic-style’ lunch for the children on that day. This will be eaten outside, like a proper picnic, if the weather is fine or in classrooms if the weather is poor. Packed lunch children may bring their own lunches and eat with their friends as usual.
Wise Owl before and after school club will also run as usual on the day and will follow the same alternative access arrangements as last polling day. Please contact Wise Owl directly for any further clarification.
Traffic around the school will undoubtedly be increased during the day and particularly at drop off and pick up times and in that regard I do ask for your patience and consideration during those times.
Thank you all very much for your continued support,
Many thanks
Mrs L. Lockett

This is particularly the case for Sports Day which is only held weather permitting.
Where times have not yet been finalised – Year 2 production, exact timings for Sports Day – these will be issued nearer the time.
If it transpires that the country is not involved in the forthcoming EU elections and that school can therefore remain open, we will endeavour to let parents know at the earliest possible time.
We appreciate your support and understanding.

Winners! - Tesco Bags of Help Appeal
Fri 29 Mar 2019I am delighted to inform you that we have just had the final confirmation from Tesco that we were the outright winners of the Bags of Help appeal!
Our project – ‘Stalyhill Forest Friends’ came out as the winning project in the January and February 2019 appeal.
As you can imagine we are absolutely over the moon and can’t wait to get started on installing much needed drainage into our forest school hill so that the children can make much more regular use of our forest area.
We know that we would not have won the grant without all the help and support that we have had from our amazing parents and families, so I would like to say a huge thank you to you all! We know that lots of you were badgering your extended families, friends and neighbours into supporting Stalyhill too so this really has been a fantastic community effort.
Our neighbouring Stalybridge schools and Hilltop nursery were also supporting our campaign and I’ve made sure to send our thanks to their staff and families too. We will be delighted to be able to reciprocate and promote their campaigns should they choose to enter a bid themselves.
Once again, a huge thankyou to you all, we will keep you informed regarding the schedule of works as soon as we have more information.
Many thanks
Mrs L. Lockett

Decorate an Egg Competition - Thursday 4th April 2019
Tue 26 Mar 2019Once again we are holding a ‘decorate an egg’ competition for the children to enter. There will be 3 Easter egg prizes per class.
The competition will take place on Thursday 4th April and any children wishing to enter should bring their decorated egg to school on that day.
As in previous years, the PTA have kindly donated a small Easter gift for every child in school and the children will also receive these that day.
We look forward to seeing the children’s creations and will ensure that we post plenty of photographs on our Twitter feed @StalyhillInfant and on our website.

World Book Day 2019
Tue 05 Mar 2019We are getting very excited about World Book Day on Thursday.. Lots of activities have been planned in each of the year groups to allow the children to explore and enjoy a range of books.
In Reception they are going to be: sharing favourite story books, drawing story maps, making book marks and writing a simple book review.
Year 1 have got a very exciting morning. First the children will be having a visit from the blue Cross, discussing what pets need. They will then be tying this learning to the book ‘Detective Dog’ in which they will be exploring the main character. There will be lots of drama and fun activities to allow the children to explore the book.
In Year 2 the children are going to be exploring the characters they are coming dressed as and explaining why they have chosen those characters. They will also be doing some data handling work, looking at most popular books around school. To end the day they are going to be making a pop - up book linked to our topic London.
Look out for some of our pictures on Thursday to see what we have been up to.

Keeping Children Safe Online
Thu 28 Feb 2019You may have already seen in the media, that there have been a number of recent concerns in relation to children’s safety whilst online. We have been made aware of a very worrying trend where children are using media services (such as WhatsApp and YouTube) to search or send links related to an application called MOMO.
We would like to take this opportunity to make you aware of a link to some useful guidance for parents in relation to keeping children safe online when using social media, the internet etc.
https://www.childnet.com/ufiles/Supporting-Young-People-Online.pdf
In school we work with your children to support them in keeping themselves safe whilst online and we hope that by providing the attached information you will feel confident to talk to your children about their online activity and to support them in keeping safe.
