  • Christmas Parties and Christmas Dinner

    Mon 03 Dec 2018

    Christmas Parties and Christmas Dinner

Christmas parties will be held on the week commencing 10th December:

    Monday 10th Reception

    Tuesday 11th Year 1

    Wednesday 12th Year 2

    Thursday 13th Christmas Dinner

    Friday 14th Christmas Jumper Day

On party days the children may come to school in their party clothes but please remember sensible footwear as the children will still play outside at lunchtime.

Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day

On Friday 14th December we are inviting pupils to take part in Christmas Jumper Day. On that day, the children can wear non-uniform along with their most festive, silliest or cosiest jumpers/tops and make a donation of £1 to help Save the Children to give hope to families in difficulty this Christmas.

Please don’t splash out on a snazzy sweater to take part – you can decorate an old or plain top with tinsel, baubles or homemade snowflakes to create your own unique jumper.

Please send your donations into school on Friday 14th December. Thank you.

  • Weather

    Wed 28 Nov 2018

In the event of severe weather conditions the following guidelines should be used in case of snow:-

Look at the School Website – www.stalyhill-inf.tameside.sch.uk. This will be updated on a daily basis to inform you if the school is closed.

Check your emails/text messages as a Parentmail will be sent out to keep you informed of the situation.

Listen to the local radio stations – Key 103, Tameside Radio.

We will endeavour to keep school open. However, our priority is the safety of the children, and if the conditions are hazardous or a number of staff are unable to get in, then we may have to close.

    Important:

If school remains open, it remains parents decision whether or not to bring your child. If you feel that coming to school in your personal circumstances would prove dangerous to yourself and your child, please do not attempt the journey. Children that do not attend school on extreme snow days will be given a Y code for attendance which will not affect their attendance record.

  • Parent Workshop - Mindfulness. Wednesday November 21st

    Fri 09 Nov 2018 L Plant

All parents are invited to a mindfulness parent workshop at the Infant School on Wednesday November 21st starting at 9.15 to approx. 11.15am.

The workshop will be delivered by mindfulness expert, Liam Hand, who has previously worked with our staff and children. Liam works in the private and education sector, teaching adults and children strategies and techniques to help them to enhance their sense of emotional wellbeing and to manage their feelings effectively. These strategies include tapping and breathing techniques and a range of mindfulness activities designed to develop a sense of inner calm, increase focus, release stress and anxiety, and to promote a general sense of happiness.

The workshop will be open to all Stalyhill parents, at both the Infant and Junior schools. Due to the nature of the workshop, we kindly ask that younger children do not attend if at all possible. If you are planning on attending the workshop, please let either school office know as soon as possible or return the slip on the letter sent home.

  • Mrs Wheeler's Postponed Parents Evening

    Mon 05 Nov 2018

    Dear Parents and carers,

Due to Mrs Wheeler being taken ill over the half term break and as yet, not well enough to return to work, it is with regret that we need to postpone her parent’s evening appointments for both Wednesday and Thursday.

I understand that this may cause some inconvenience for parents and for that I can only apologise, however I’m sure that you understand that this is an unforeseen circumstance and join me in wishing Mrs Wheeler a very speedy recovery.

The children are being very well cared for by the rest of the Reception staff team in Mrs Wheeler’s absence and we will reschedule her appointments with parents as soon as we can, following her return to work.

    Thank you for your understanding,

    Mrs L. Lockett

  • School Arrangements

    Fri 14 Sep 2018

    I hope all the children have settled back into school now and you have all managed to resume your normal routines! I just wanted to send out a couple of reminders for you all regarding some of our school arrangements;

    Reading Books

Parents are more than welcome to come in and change their child’s reading books after school. You are more than welcome to take a couple of books with you if your child is an avid reader and is getting through them quickly. We do ask that you choose books from the same colour band as the books that the teacher has sent home as this will be the level your child has been assessed as reading at.

    Library

Please also remember that our lovely library is also open every night after school for parents and children to use. We just ask that you come around to the front office to sign in and receive a visitor’s sticker so that staff in Wise Owl know who you are.

    Snacks at morning break

    Although free fruit is available to all the children as a healthy snack, we know that many parents choose to send snacks in with the children for them to eat at morning break time. We are a healthy school and therefore ask that no crisps, chocolate or sweets are sent in. We also ask that no nuts are sent in as some children in school have severe nut allergies. The table below outlines the type of snacks that we would encourage you to send in;

    • Yes please

    X No thanks

    • Fruit (please could grapes be cut lengthways to avoid being a choking hazard)
    • Rice cakes
    • Tube yoghurts
    • Cereal bars
    • Plain popcorn
    • Savoury snacks
    • Other fruit-based snacks
    • Sweets
    • Chocolate bars
    • Chocolate covered items
    • Crisps
    • Sweet popcorn
    • Nuts/Peanuts

    Reception Coffee and Chat

Next Wednesday is our annual Reception coffee and chat morning starting at 9am. This is a lovely opportunity for new Reception mums and dads to get together and make some new friendships and also get to know the Reception staff a bit better. We hope you can make it!

    Jewellery

We prefer children not to wear any jewellery in school, particularly earrings on days that they are doing PE. If your child has pierced ears and their earrings cannot be removed, please let the teacher know and we will put a plaster over them for the PE lesson.

    Many thanks
    Mrs L. Lockett
